| The “Choose Sensibly” program at Corinth Central School encourages students to make sensible snack choices. Learning to make sensible choices provides children with the ability to use their knowledge of nutrition throughout their lives.
The Choose Sensibly Standards
Reading nutrition labels to make sensible choices is a skill students need to develop and practice. To be sure you're making a sensible choices snacks and beverages should meet the following guidelines:
SNACKS
7 grams or less of fat,
2 grams or less of saturated fat
15 grams or less of sugar
360 milligrams or less of sodium
BEVERAGES
One serving per package
10 milligrams or less of caffeine
All low fat milks and low fat flavored milks are okay
Juice drinks must contain at least 25% REAL juice Water and flavored waters should have no added sugar, artificial sweeteners or caffeine
If you read nutritional information on food products, you will see that it is not always easy to find such items.
The New York School Food Service Association has created this Snack List to help identify those manufacturers and their products that meet the Choose Sensibly nutritional profile.
Choose Sensibly is a proactive approach to applying the dietary guidelines to snacks purchased by students in New York State and is a campaign initiated by the New York School Food Service Association.
