Dollars for Scholars
Have you heard about the ongoing work of Corinth’s Dollars for Scholars organization? This community-based group awards scholarships to graduating seniors. This program enables students to reach for and achieve their educational goals.

Dear Neighbors, Friends and Families of Corinth,

Dollars for Scholars endeavors to provide the support and encouragement for Corinth students to attend college and awards scholarships to graduating seniors.

Our local community-based Dollars for Scholars organization was formed in 1993. In that very first year they awarded 11 students a total of $2,650.  Since then the organization has grown significantly; in this past year 17 students were presented awards totaling $18,550.  Over the last 13 years a total of $139,800 has been awarded thanks to the efforts of Dollars for Scholars volunteers and the generosity of the community.

Annually, we have what we refer to as “the big five” fundraisers.  Each event is chaired by one member and organized with the help of all.  These major events are as follows:

March McDonald’s Night:
With the assistance of Renee Reardon of Ext 18 McDonald’s we have a fun-filled night “posing” as employees.  Teachers from Corinth School “go to work” at McDonald’s taking orders, operating cash registers, and managing the drive-thru window.  It is a great deal of fun for Corinth’s students to watch their teachers serve their food.  In the past you might have seen Superintendent Matt Breitenbach, one of our Principals, or some of our teachers behind the register with their McDonald’s hats on ready to take your order.

March Dance Marathon:
This fundraiser is for students in grades 8-12 who dance the night away to the music of a deejay from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.  There are disco lights flashing, line dance lessons, costume contests, games and lots of enthusiasm.  Each student must collect $50 in pledges to participate.  The funds are donated to Dollars for Scholars, Cystic Fibrosis and Camp Comfort of Glens Falls Hospital.

May Food Booth at Memories on Wheels Car Show:
Dollars for Scholars unites efforts with Memories on Wheels Car Club for this annual event and provides refreshments while the folks from Memories on Wheels display some of the area’s finest vehicles.

September Golf Tournament:
Everyone loves to golf!  This annual event at Brookhaven Golf Course is one of our most successful fundraisers.  Each year there are well over 100 golfers who enjoy great prizes and dinner.  Just a few examples of the prizes awarded to the golfers include an overnight stay at the Queensbury Hotel, golf for four at the Sagamore and dinner at Lillian’s Restaurant.

Phone-a-thon:
The Hudson River Community Credit Union allows our organization to use their facility for this event.  Each October the members of Dollars for Scholars members collaborate with Junior and Senior students, telephoning local community members to request donations.

We would like to acknowledge the teachers and staff at Corinth Central School who make monetary contributions to our organization each pay period.  Thanks to all of you for your support.

Corinth Dollars for Scholars is a community success story.  Thanks to the efforts of all involved, many Corinth graduates have been helped.  We wanted you to know!  Along with our 24 members we also have many volunteers.  If you would like to be added to the volunteer list, please call our President, Ron White, at Corinth Central School at 654-9005, ext. 3441.

With Sincere Gratitude,
Corinth Dollars for Scholars
